|SPOCCOs going from strength to strength!
In wishing you and yours the very best wishes for a happy Christmas and New Year, we bring you tidings from the Football Club.
2016 was a successful year for the SPOC Football Club and 2017 promises to be an exciting one with new faces around the Club and the promise of good things in 2017 as the Club resumes its position in the top level competition in A1.
The Club is determined to build on its 2016 success with its A Grade team competing in the A2 Grand Final and being promoted into A1 and its C grade side winning an A7 Premiership.
The Club has already taken a number of positive steps towards success in 2017, both on and off the field.
Major Sponsor extends Sponsorship for 3 years
We are delighted to announce that the Club has renewed its long standing partnership with The Maid, which has agreed to continue as the Major Sponsor of SPOCFC for another 3 years. The importance of this sponsorship cannot be underestimated. The Maid provides the Club’s community with much envied facilities during the season and throughout the year. We have been able to negotiate a raft of deals for True Blues and players from the Maid including extended 6 day happy hours, full details of which will be disclosed early next year. We encourage all our community to really support the Maid.
New Committee takes shape
At the Committee, our President David Black continues his tireless work as President and Guy Roberts takes over as Chairman from Scott Rich who stays on the Committee. We welcome Henry Treloar and Stephen Duncan to the Committee. Henry is leading the Club’s recruiting efforts and Stephen will assist with Sponsorships and Fundraising.
New Coaches locked away and raring to go
The Committee was delighted to recently announce the impeccably credentialed Chris Hall as its new Club Coach, following the departure of much loved and respected A Grade Coach, Trevor Hill. We again acknowledge Trevor’s long and outstanding career, with 2 Premierships, another Grand Final and lifelong friendships, two of the many highlights of his time with the Club. Prospectively, his greatest legacy may be that he has demonstrated to us an A1 premiership can be won from A2 the year before. Whilst we have a mountain to climb, we know, rather than hope, it can be done and our mind set will be positive as we take the next step.
Chris Hall, with a long and successful playing and coaching career in the SANFL and WAFL, brings new enthusiasm and methods, which have been welcomed by the playing group. Chris has already had a positive impact as he puts the players through their paces, with preseason training well attended and powering along.
Michael Harvey is the new B Grade Coach. Michael is an old scholar and former Premiership player with the Club and brings with him professionalism and good knowledge of the game.
Club favourite son Tom Hunter has taken over the helm of the C Grade and has big shoes to fill as the C Grade backs up its premiership year in 2016 and we’re sure he’s up for the challenge.
We wish Chris, Michael and Tom and their teams all the best for 2017.
If you play for SPOC, you will be under the very best coaches: your game will improve and you will enjoy your footy more.
Sponsors and True Blues
We would like to make a point of thanking The Maid and all of our Sponsors and True Blues in 2016, whose support is vital to the continuing effective running of the Club.
We will be in touch with Sponsors and True Blues early in the new year as we complete the important task of funding the Club. Please give a thought to a player sponsorship by which the player’s subs are paid and you become a True Blue for the modest sum of $500 a saving on both components of $100.
New! True Blue Under 45’s
Next season there will be 2 categories of True Blues, designed to attract the younger supporters to come back to the Club. True Blue over 45’s will continue at the current level of $350 and will receive the same benefits of newsletters, welcome beer at all home games, Club cap and other privileges and discounts at The Maid. While the Club is well supported by the over 45’s, not so the under 45’s. It seems that old players disappear after their playing careers. To encourage former players and friends back to the Club in 2017 as the Club launches its assault on A1, we are offering the True Blue membership t o under 45’s at the discounted rate of $150. Please tell your under 45’s about this offer and get them to join!
SPOCCOs and Old Reds Lunch
It promises to be a great season and we are planning to host our many popular Club events – Season Launch with Player Auction, Ladies Day, Country Day, Sponsors Day and End of Season Dinner. Plus next season we are planning a combined SPOC FC and PAOC FC Lunch at the Adelaide Oval. This lunch will be held on the Friday before the first round clash between the Clubs. The 2 Committee are keen to join the both old scholar communities together to celebrate the numerous friendships and rivalries that exist between the two proud Club communities
Your Committee works hard to ensure Club success. Please play your part and support your Club in 2017 in any way you can.
We are truly excited by the challenges ahead and in thanking you for your support this year, we very much look forward to it continuing for the next very exciting year for our club.
Merry Christmas and Go SPOCCOs!

Guy Roberts, Chairman
