Saint Peters Old Collegians Football Club entered the Adelaide Footy League in 1928 and has just celebrated its 90-year anniversary of successful participation in the AdFL.  SPOC ranks fourth in the AdFL in seasons played and has won 21 premierships in its proud history, most recently with its A Grade team winning Division 2 Premiership in 2018.  SPOC also frequently has players selected for representative teams.

The Club presently fields three mens’ teams and has plans for a womens’ team.  The Club aims to provide a competitive and enjoyable football environment for players of all levels of skill and ability, with the focus of its A Grade being firmly on achieving its highest potential.  In addition, the Club strives to give to its players and supporters alike all the opportunities a strong and successful community football club can offer on-field and socially.

While the Club derives the majority of its playing group from its close links with St Peter’s College, it also encourages and has developed, a broad and inclusive culture bringing together young people from many backgrounds so that the Club benefits from the strength which diversity brings.

An unplanned vacancy in its Senior Coach role has recently arisen due to the incumbent relocating interstate due to work commitments.

Reporting to the Chairman, the Senior Coach is responsible for leading and managing the development and implementation of the Club’s football strategy for each of the Club’s three football teams, including the coaching of the Club’s A Grade side, which has recently been promoted to compete in Division One of the AdFL. The key responsibilities of the Senior Coach include;

  1. Development of the Club’s football and coaching strategy.
  2. Coaching of A Grade team and implementing of a defined game plan effectively, plus engagement with players and coaches in the other teams.
  3. Effective relationship management across a diverse stakeholder group inside the Club and externally.
  4. Developing a culture of success in the Club, sharing Club values.
  5. Promoting the Club and its brand.

The successful Senior Coach will fulfil those responsibilities, being measured against key performance indicators such as on-field performance, improvement in players and team development, game plan, effective leadership and building of effective relationships with players, coaches and the Committee, plus the building of a successful football culture within the Club.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, committed coaches with high professional standards and previous experience in senior coaching roles.  A positive, encouraging and disciplined approach, an ability to build and maintain effective relationships with highly developed communication skills, high performance coaching skills and the ability to work within an old scholars’ framework are all essential requirements. Coaching qualifications and a deep technical understanding of the modern AFL game is required.
